New Media Beat Old Media on (Manassas, Virginia) Richard A. Viguerie, co-author of America’s Right Turn--How Conservatives Used New and Alternative Media to Take Power (Bonus Books, 2004), said that New and Alternative Media, along with grassroots efforts, were able to prevail over pressure from big business and the White House on the Bush Amnesty Bill. Viguerie said conservatives using blogs, e-mail messages, websites, radio talk shows, cable TV, and direct mail were able to rally the American people to beat the Bush Administration and the business establishment. “If this same fight had been waged even 20 years ago, the big boys probably would have won. Today, ordinary citizens were able to have their voices forcefully heard in Washington, D.C. This was a Harriet Miers-type moment,” he said. “As it is, the GOP and many members of Congress will see a significant loss of financial support because of President Bush’s betrayal of Republican Party principles. An increasing number of conservatives are being alienated from the GOP,” he said. Viguerie warned that Senators who have voted for cloture on the Bush Amnesty Bill, on any of the three votes so far, will face the wrath of conservatives. “Presidential aspirants John McCain, Sam Brownback, and Chuck Hagel have permanently burned their bridges with the base of the Republican Party and destroyed any chance they might have had of being nominated for President or Vice President,” he said. Sign the Pledge! Act now, don’t wait! Click here to send the pledge to your friends You thought the Bush Amnesty Bill was dead… …but it’s ALIVE! 1. You, and hundreds of thousands of Americans like you, told Congress: No amnesty for illegal aliens! No Bush Amnesty Bill! 2. Congress heard you, loud and clear. It refused to cut off debate on the Bush Amnesty Bill, in effect killing it. Or so we thought. 3. President Bush refuses to accept the will of the people. Nothing’s going to stop his Big Business backers from getting their cheap labor. He’s bribing Senators with threats and pork, and another vote is set for Wednesday! So, we have no choice… 4. It’s time to play hardball! All of us must take the pledge, and let every Republican Senator and Representative know we mean business: I PLEDGE I pledge that if the Senate and the House pass the Bush Amnesty Bill in any shape or form, I will:

CLICK HERE to sign this pledge Pro-amnesty Senators will claim that amendments have improved the Bush Amnesty Bill, but don’t believe them! Every single amendment, no matter how “tough” sounding, is just a sham designed to give them “cover” for voting for amnesty. If we give the millions of illegal aliens amnesty, President Bush will then simply ignore the “tough” amendments he doesn’t like—just as he has been ignoring the immigration and border-protection laws already on the books! And don’t be fooled by crocodile tears from Republican leaders crying, “We didn’t pass the bill—the Democrats did!” It takes 60 votes in the Senate to cut off debate. That means the Bush Amnesty Bill cannot be approved without Republican votes. If the Bush Amnesty Bill passes, we will place the blame right where it belongs—on the Republican Party! Our only recourse is the pocketbook and the vote. Don’t be fooled by Congressional gobbledygook and lies. To paraphrase what Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan wrote recently in the Wall Street Journal, regarding President Bush and his amnesty bill: We are not leaving the Republican Party—the Republican Party has left us! |
